Catholics Support Marriage Equality in Maryland

Members of Equally Blessed, a Catholic Coalition seeking justice for LGBT people in our church and in society, sent the following letter to members of the Maryland House of Delegates on February 16, 2012.

 Dear Delegate,

As Catholics, we value our faith tradition that calls us to speak on behalf of the marginalized and create a church and a society in which all God’s children are welcomed. We are called to live together, ever keeping before us the charge to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God, as called for in Micah 6:8.

In March, the Public Religion Research Institute released a comprehensive study on the attitude of Catholics on rights for gays and lesbians, and the results were clear: American Catholics are more supportive of civil rights for the LGBT community than the general population.

Gay Catholics Strongly Protest Expulsion of Dignity/San Antonio from Parish Home

October 22, 2010-Boston, MA.--DignityUSA, the nation's largest organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Catholics and our supporters, is shocked and saddened by the actions of San Antonio Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Cantu, who ordered a local parish to stop hosting a weekly Mass for gay and transgender Catholics and their families. The letter, dated October 13, 2010, ordered the liturgies to end as of October 18, 2010.
